In Loving Memory Of Austin

While riding his bike on November 3, Austin Thurmeier was hit by a car. He was taken to the hospital where he underwent two surgeries to reduce the swelling of his brain. On November 24th, Austin woke up.

“Austin woke, saw us, and recognized us! He communicated all day by giving us a variety of hand signals our favorite was the thumbs up! We videoed him all day, as we were so excited that he was beating the odds.”-Thurmeier Family

Three days later, with his family by his side, Austin peacefully passed away due to a brain bleed that was too severe to survive. Austin’s sisters, Maddy and Britney, created Thumbs Up for Austin T-shirts for the funeral service. Maddy and Britney’s T-shirts were received with overwhelming support. The sisters began to take orders for their T-shirts from family and friends and decided to give the proceeds to the Saskatchewan Brain Injury Association in Austin’s memory

“Although we did not get the opportunity to access brain injury support for Austin, it was close to our hearts. We are grateful for the acts of kindness that we have received and hope that this money can help someone else”.

We are grateful for the generosity of Austin Thurmeier’s friends and family. It is generous donations such as these that enable us to keep our programs running throughout the year and ensure that people living with brain injury and those who support them have access to the resources and support that they need.

While we wish that Austin’s outcome had been different, we hope that his loved ones will find comfort in knowing that the funds raised in his honor will be put to good use.
