About Us

Since 1985, the Saskatchewan Brain Injury Association (formerly the Saskatchewan Head Injury Association) has been helping individuals and families deal with the effects of traumatic or acquired brain injury. (We use these terms interchangeably). Founded by families whose children sustained brain injuries, the Saskatchewan Brain Injury Association (SBIA) is a registered charity, registered under the Saskatchewan Non-Profit Corporations Act, which provides support and service free of charge to individuals and families who are living with the affects of acquired brain injury.

Each year, the Saskatchewan Brain Injury Association reaches out to many survivors, family members, and caregivers, offering:

  • emotional support
  • information
  • service advocacy
  • educational seminars/programs
  • support and guidance
  • referrals to and support of injury Support Networks/Groups and area Chapters
  • We distribute Information and Educational materials about acquired brain injury and its PREVENTION throughout the province.
  • We manage and maintain a Provincial Information/Resource Centre for students, (para) professionals, survivors, and their families at our Provincial Office.

Each month, our Provincial Toll Free Support Line receives between 50 and 100 calls, and our Web Site provides information to nearly 4,000 hits.

As awareness of the effects and causes of acquired brain injury grows so too do the demands on our supports services and resources.

Mission Statement

The Saskatchewan Brain Injury Association is dedicated to improving the knowledge, services and quality of life for those living with an acquired brain injury, their families and service providers.

Vision Statement

The Saskatchewan Brain Injury Association is a provincial, volunteer driven organization working in partnership with other community organizations to create and enhance services and programs for persons with acquired brain injury and their families and caregivers.

Although we acknowledge that every brain injury is different we believe in the value of group and individual support. SBIA gathers people together from around the province in positive environments to learn from one another as they share experiences and get on with the business of living.

By looking to those who have lived the experience of brain injury to educate the public, health care professionals and students we continually educate and promote understanding. We are recognized for our caring and competency.
